About the clitoris:

Let’s start with a striking fact: the clitoris is the only organ in the human body whose sole function is pleasure.

How old were you when you first learned about the clitoris? Or that clitorisses even get erections! At Clitoris Factory, we must admit that we were a bit late to the party. It’s puzzling, considering that nearly half of the world’s population is born with one. Unfortunately, the clitoris remains shrouded in mystery for many. Did you know that information about the clitoris has only been included in medical textbooks for the past two years?

As famous sexologist Ellen Laan (1962–2022) emphasized, "The clitoris is not a luxury; it is essential." Her research challenged outdated perceptions of sexual pleasure, revealing the crucial role the clitoris plays—not just for women, but for anyone with a clitoris. Yet, despite its central importance, the clitoris is often omitted and misrepresented in sex education.

This small yet powerful organ is far more intricate than most people realize. What we see on the outside—the glans, or tip—is only the beginning. Beneath the surface lies an expansive network of erectile tissue that wraps around the vaginal canal like a wishbone, extending up to 11 centimeters(!) inside the body. Interestingly, some animals have a clitoris as well (or two, in the case of snakes).

Another important fact we like to share at Clitoris Factory is that in the first 5 to 6 weeks in the womb, all embryos begin developing as females. As strange as it may sound, we all started with a vulva during the early weeks of our lives. The clitoris is an erectile organ that shares the same embryonic origin as the penis and contains about 10,000 nerve endings—more than double the 4,000 found in the penis.

This revelation blew our minds, and it’s no wonder we continue to struggle with inclusive, open, and honest sexual education when these facts are suppressed.

Luckily there’s a sexual health revolution going on, and we as Clitoris Factory are happy to contribute to this very necessary movement. Because sexual health is a human right.

And we at Clitoris Factory find that:

Pleasure = power, and so is knowledge.
